white walls in a fairy tale town

I slept at the old house one last time
the room looked so cramped
and nothing felt right
the white walls were never really that white
cause of the dogs, the smokes and the lights
then it got sold as we all knew it would
my father moved flats, but not neighbourhoods
as static a life as a framed still
where movement precedes or follows the reel

I slept at the old house one snowy night
the car had packed up as I drove under lights
just a short stroll from a couple streets down
the snow made it look like a fairy tale town

white walls in a fairy tale town…

the lengths I have gone to blow it away
the work and the hours spent on aeroplanes
the father I’m now and the son I was then
the money I’ve made and the money I’ve spent

white walls in a fairy tale town…

I bought my own house and it felt like a home
but with like every other, I left before long
the walls weren’t white and they needn’t be
but something in my head just told me to leave

white walls in a fairy tale town…
